Lawrence’s sidewalk program marks hazards in front of homes, and a sunken or tipped panel is one of the most common reasons a sidewalk gets painted.
A driveway that drops at the garage or the curb leaves a ridge that catches tires and lets water collect.
Concrete steps and porches that settle lean away from the house or pull toward it, leaving a gap at the foundation.
A patio sinking back toward the foundation sends rainwater exactly where you don’t want it.
Real Foamjection lifts on the kinds of slabs we fix for Lawrence homeowners. Small holes, no tear-out.

Foamjection is powered by HMI, which provides the equipment, training and systems behind every lift. Here’s what you can expect when you call us about your Lawrence concrete:

Drill Small HolesOur crew drills small 5/8″ holes in key areas of the slab.
Inject High-Density Polyurethane FoamThis is the core of polyurethane concrete lifting — the foam expands beneath the slab, fills voids, stabilizes loose soils, and delivers a controlled slab lifting process.
Patch & Use the Same DayOnce the slab reaches the correct height, holes are patched and the area is often ready to use within hours.
Tell us what’s sinking and where. A local pro will follow up with a free, no-pressure estimate.
Many Lawrence neighborhoods sit on clay soils that formed from the area’s layered shale and limestone. The Martin soil series, which the USDA mapped with its type location in Douglas County near Clinton, has a heavy, very sticky clay subsoil.
Clay like this swells when it’s wet and shrinks as it dries, so the soil under a driveway or patio keeps moving through the seasons. Over time that movement leaves gaps under the slab, and the concrete settles into them. Foam fills those gaps and helps stabilize the soil so the slab is supported again.

Every service below uses the same foam lifting process, sized to the slab. Not sure which one you need? Describe the problem on the estimate form and a local pro will help you figure it out.
Usually the adjacent property owner. Under the City’s sidewalk program, pink paint marks a hazard the owner must repair under City Code, while white paint marks a hazard caused by City infrastructure, like a street tree, which the City fixes. Owners who hire their own contractor need a permit and a City inspection. Details are on the City of Lawrence sidewalk program page.
If the panel is in one piece and the problem is a height difference, lifting may be an option. Ask about it during your estimate, and keep in mind that work on a public sidewalk has to meet City standards and pass inspection.
Clay soil swells and shrinks with moisture, which opens up empty spaces under concrete. Foam fills those spaces and helps stabilize the soil underneath. Keeping downspouts and sprinklers aimed away from the slab helps too.
