Cracked, buckled or uneven sidewalk panels are the kind of trip hazard the City of Cedar Rapids asks owners to fix.
A driveway that sinks where it meets the garage floor leaves a lip and lets water run back toward the house.
Steps that settle lean away from the house or leave a gap at the foundation.
Sunken slabs hold water, which freezes and makes the problem worse.
Real Foamjection lifts on the kinds of slabs we fix for Cedar Rapids homeowners. Small holes, no tear-out.

Foamjection is powered by HMI, which provides the equipment, training and systems behind every lift. Here’s what you can expect when you call us about your Cedar Rapids concrete:

Drill Small HolesOur crew drills small 5/8″ holes in key areas of the slab.
Inject High-Density Polyurethane FoamThis is the core of polyurethane concrete lifting — the foam expands beneath the slab, fills voids, stabilizes loose soils, and delivers a controlled slab lifting process.
Patch & Use the Same DayOnce the slab reaches the correct height, holes are patched and the area is often ready to use within hours.
Tell us what’s sinking and where. A local pro will follow up with a free, no-pressure estimate.
Uplands across eastern Iowa are often wind-blown silt (loess) sitting on dense glacial till. The USDA describes soils like the Dinsdale series, where water moves through the till very slowly and the soil above it stays saturated in spring.
Wet silt loses strength, and when it freezes and thaws, the ground under a slab moves. Over time that leaves empty spaces under driveways, walks and steps, and the concrete settles into them. Foam fills those spaces and firms up the soil.

Every service below uses the same foam lifting process, sized to the slab. Not sure which one you need? Describe the problem on the estimate form and a local pro will help you figure it out.
Adjacent property owners are responsible for maintaining and repairing their sidewalk, including trip hazards like cracking, buckling or uneven panels. Work in the right-of-way requires a permit, and the City offers partial reimbursement to owners who make repairs. See the City of Cedar Rapids property owner responsibility page.
If the panel is in one piece and the problem is a height difference, lifting may be an option. Ask about it during your estimate, and check City permit requirements for work on a public sidewalk.

Keep water away from slab edges so less of it freezes in the soil. Extend downspouts and keep soil sloped away from the house.
